So, let me get this straight; everytime I listen to the diatribe coming out of the conservative agenda, I get to listen to how judicial activism by liberal judges is bad for the country, but at the same time, will support state legislation from South Dakota that would openly defy a 1973 U.S. Supreme Court landmark decision?
Here's some needed review* for the legal councel of South Dakota over The Supremacy Clause and Federal Preemption:
THE SUPREMACY CLAUSE Article. VI. This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding. State courts are bound then to give effect to federal law when it is applicable and to disregard state law when there is a conflict; federal law includes, of course, not only the Constitution and congressional enactments and treaties but as well the interpretations of their meanings by the United States Supreme Court.
I take new comfort in the fact that most of America can't find you on a map anyway.
* sarcasm implied, It is apparent that South Dakota is attempting to force the matter before the Supreme Court now that the recent appointment of conservative justices Roberts and Alito have made the Supreme Court more likely to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Welcome to Nazi America the year is 2006 and all those who are not good Christians will be put to death. Im glad I have my passport good and ready.
Oklahoma has submitted over 13 abortion bills in the last 4 weeks. To the extent that one rep admitted that she came in with the intention of pushing the chrisitan agenda. Did I mention I am applying to a grad program in Canada?
No, I have some faith in democracy and hope that logic will prevail over stupidity, that a federal court decision will not be overturned to appease a minority of this country. Planned Parenthood in South Dakota even feels that if this were put to a vote in their state, they would prevail in keeping the measure legal. What is interesting is how do you propose to vote on something the US Supreme Court already deems as a fundamental right of choice?
I can tell you now that if they manage to somehow overturn Roe vs. Wade, the measure will not stand in American society. Just like Prohibition in the 20's taught us, you can't legislate the morals of the few on all of society and expect it to go well (CATO Institute on Policy Analysis).
Yep, then when women are getting abortions in alleys, and gay men and lesbian women are being arrested for anti christian behavior (sodomy) americans might start to fight back. In the meantime just as my grandparents did a long long time ago I too would have gone far away. Lest we forget Crystalnacht (night of broken glass) when the Nazi gov't and people stood by and did nothing. Hmm, anyone wanna join me in England?
Oh and let me include a link so you can read more on Crystalnacht
I don't see that happening today. People are not as apathetic as they once were in history. We have seen what it can do to stand by and do nothing.
It was easier to suggest in 1930's Germany that all the problems on society to be the fault of the jewish people for far too many idiotic (of the idiology)reasons to go into. Today, there just isn't the same successful push of decay by the *Fundamentalist* Christians on the homosexuals, the non believers, and all other "sinners", on the whole of society. They just don't have the numbers despite the media reports. I suspect we will find we have more tolerance in society than we expect when this agenda is pushed through it's course.
Most Americans are complacent nowadays allowing movements such as this to press forward. Today we need to be proactive instead of reactive. Fundamentalists have been beating down on Roe V Wade for a long time now and they are determined to win, and now with two bush puppets in the Supreme Court they actaully might have a real chance of winning.
Toronto is a lovely and affordable city not too far from here. And it's looking more and more appealing every day.
hey that's where my school is. I am looking at York.
This whole thing brings tears to my eyes almost. I am in a Republican state, so it's always nice to write them and get a generic Republican answer back. I could rant about it for days. Hopefully all the letter writing helps.
Also getting other people to vote too. This last election was the first time my parents and my boyfriend’s parents voted. We all are discussed with Bush.
What really bothers me is Christians are suppose to be about love and helping people, yet they can't get their nose out of everyone’s business. Making all the non-believes life’s hell.
*rant, rant, rant!!!*

*points to map* here is South Dakota.
No?
OK *point elsewhere* here then.
No?
Crap, well I know it's one of the rectangle ones...
