Hello, my name is Beau Wade. I am a graphic designer, multi media editor, travel and design photographer, contributing writer, adventurer, and explorer. I am also a father to a really great kid.
In 1997, I cofounded the Outland Design Group, a new media company as creative director and partner of the business. Outland Design pioneered early projects such as gaffmag.com.
Originally from the state of Oklahoma (Woodward, Chickasha, Oklahoma City, Cement, Weatherford, Edmond) I have also lived in Colorado (Denver, Durango) and Texas (Dallas). Over the past several years I have traveled and worked in Australia (Perth, Sydney, Manly) until my relocation back to the United States in late 2004 where I moved to New York, NY in lower Manhattan.
I like Reeseās Cups, Australian semi-dried tomatos, Kiwi Fruit, and Snapple Peach Iced Tea. My son
frequently asked questions and random trivia
Where do you actually live?
Currently, I live and work in New York, NY.
Where is your favorite place in the world?
Hard to narrow it down. Sydney is my favorite place lived but the Colorado Rockies will always be my happy place; an Aspen lined road somewhere between Aspen and Crested Butte, Colorado.
What do you use to build your website?
I do my design in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. I was an Old School user of GoLive Cyberstudio but today I use Dreamweaver and BBEdit for HTML and Development. For some of the gallery layout, I use iView Media Pro.
As for hardware, I work on an Apple Computer and do most of my photography with my Canon SLR 30D. My current lens set includes;
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
Sigma DC 18-200mm 1:3.5-6.3
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Lens Baby II
I also sometimes take photos with my Apple iPhone.
Why do you blog? You don't seem to give as much personal information anymore.
I fell into the blogging fun sometime in 1998 and it was great, I was putting on the web some things I felt about the world and people would read it. Then I decided to stop getting so personal with my life on here when people started asking for more private details and I saw my boss one day showing this site to a client to talk about our team skills. Today I'm not really into the blogging part so much as I am the photography part but sometimes it's still nice to write some thoughts down.
Are you a real photographer?
I don't have any formal training in photography but I have been doing it for awhile and have had some interesting people help me learn along the way.
Why did you stop blogging for awhile and take the site down?
I just needed a break and some personal events set in motion that said now was a good time to do it. I meant to come back sooner but i wanted to update the site design a little.
You travel a lot, what is up with that?
Yes I do. I travel for work, for pleasure, often times it's both. I travel for work and schedule in some time around it to go see the area. I also have family in Oklahoma and friends all over the world so, it makes for a lot of air miles.
What is absolutwade.com? Why that name?
Absolutwade.com was created in 1995 and was first hosted by Earthlink until it became it's own domain two years later. It's infancy was born out of Adobe Pagemill and Photoshop and was a very typical website of the area.
Today the website has become several different things. It is a blog for the most part that allows me to keep in touch with friends and family. It's also a place for me to experiment, try new ideas, update design that I have a personal interest in.
absolut wade was from a design project in Advanced Illustration II class at University. The class was told to make an Absolut Vodka ad that related to ourselves. I did a good job with it and when I was thinking of a domain name around the same time, I thought the play on the word "Absolute" was good considering the site would be all about myself. The tie-in to the popular vodka with a stong support for artists and advertising was just an added bonus.
Where is the most remote place you have traveled to?
Depends on what you mean. In terms of culture, I would have to say that Thailand was the most different. In terms of location, it would probably be somewhere in the outback of the Northern Territory of Australia was the most removed from civilization I have been to.
Do you like your iPhone?
yup
